Directory Opus Column Size

How does one prevent Directory Opus from changing the size of columns? Hint: It is very frustrating to figure out.

Better question, or at least another question is: "How come there doesn't seem to be an easily found answer to such an annoying "issue" (or in Microsoft terms, a "by design" "feature")?
