...finally found a solution to the irritation of Desktop Icons rearranging themselves with a screen refresh (or any other minor trigger).

Even with Desktop Save and Restore able to put the icons back, it is annoying that it needs to be done on a regular basis.

The secret? Don't just delete the icon cache file in C:\Users\WhatEverUser\AppData\Local, also delete all the "Icon" and "Thumb" cache files in: C:\Users\WhatEverUser\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer

The trick is that one has to log off and then log on as a different user to successfully delete those files. And then delete all profiles in Desktop Save & Restore (possibly remove the program and update too)
